We often don’t value health until we don’t have it. How many days do you feel well and capable but take it for granted until we experience a sick day?

It’s totally our responsibility to create a healthy body for us to be able to live our life productively. It’s not our doctor’s job to make us healthy although they can support us in maintaining our health. We need to be in the driver’s seat of our health.

With that in mind reflecting on the Self-Care list previously mentioned.

  • In the area of the fuel you supply to your body what are you putting into your body? What are you eating? Consider the good foods you are consuming and write these down.
  • Consider the unhealthy/junk food that you need to remove or lessen in your diet.
  •  What fluids are you intaking? Write down the good fluids you are consuming. Eg: green juices, water.
  • What fluids are you intaking that are not so good for you. How much if any caffeine are you consuming? Are you consuming too much alcohol? How much are you having? Is it the occasional social drink or is it a crutch for loneliness or to anesthetise deep pain? Write down what you are having and think about why (what need is it meeting, eg coffee as an opportunity to take a break/time out from work).
  • Write down how you are physically moving your body in a healthy way. Are you walking, dancing, stretching etc.
  • Brain dump any exercises that you could possibly do to support your body to remain fit and healthy. Don’t worry about whether you can do them yet. Just throw out the options.
  • Now write down at least 3 practices you are going to incorporate into your daily life to improve the overall health of your body. Remembering that the practices you enjoy are the ones you are most likely to continue to do. Each positive improvement is a building block towards a better, healthier life.
